Dailey Staffing Up

After bagging the estimated $100 million Safeway media account in March, Dailey & Associates is staffing up with 24 new hires who will be devoted to the account.

Among the more notable appointments, Kendra Vollans joins the West Hollywood, Calif., shop as vp, associate media director—the No. 2 person on the account. Vollans had worked as group media director at Kovel/Fuller in Culver City, Calif., until last September, and most recently ran her own consulting practice, Vollans Communications.

“She has a great reputation,” said agency president Brian Morris. “She seemed like the right person to handle such a large account.”

An 18-year veteran in the market, Vollans has worked on brands such as Chrysler, Lincoln Mercury, Burger King and McDonald’s. At Dailey, she reports to svp and group media director Pam McNeely.

“She had a lot of experience in retail, which was important,” said McNeely. “A number of years in the business creates an unflappability to meet the demands of a retail account.”

Vollans said she was attracted by the caliber of Dailey’s employees and the opportunity to work on Safeway. “I’ve always wanted to work there, but there was never an opportunity to go in at my level,” she said.

In the last two months, Dailey has also added 10 planners, eight buyers and a handful of accounting people, joining the nine staffers already servicing the account.

McNeely said the new employees include a number who had earlier been laid off from other shops.

“It felt like Christmas being able to hire,” said McNeely.
