Tribune Co. is so pleased with the results of its first foray into home shopping it’s talking about expanding the concept to additional markets. ‘A Gift for You,’ its one-hour shopping special hawking Chicago Cubs merchandise that ran May 30 on superstation WGN-TV resulted in sellouts for most of the items, such as balls and bats autographed by past and present Cubs stars. Orders came in from 39 states, the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
Not bad for a team that last won a World Series title in 1908.
