Critical Mass Tabbed Top Web Shop

NEW YORK A Forrester Research report named Critical Mass the Web design industry’s leading agency.

Critical Mass, Omnicom Group’s Organic and Interpublic Group’s R/GA were judged in the top tier. The second group, identified as “strong performers,” included Omnicom’s, Fry, Aegis Group’s Molecular, aQuantive’s Avenue A/Razorfish, WhittmanHart, VML, Digitas and IMC2. IPG’s FCBi was tagged as a “contender.”

The research firm’s third-quarter review of the industry examined the strengths of 12 Web site design firms, ranking them on the venues they designed, strategy and market presence.

Harley Manning, the Forrester Research analyst who compiled the report, wrote that Canada-based Critical Mass stood out for its superior Web site work, which outpaced other efforts and made up for a lower ranking in strategy than Organic and R/GA.

“Critical Mass is a throwback to the early days of the Web,” the report states. “The agency exudes earnest excitement about crafting sites that maximize the potential of this still-young medium.”

Forrester cited R/GA for strong brand-image work and style, and Organic for improving its offering.
