Creative Media Picks Up Tellme

Creative Media’s newly formed Southern California outpost has been named media agency for Internet and voice recognition technology marketer Tellme Networks. Creative for the account is handled by Siltanen/Keehn, Santa Monica, Calif., which participated in the decision to give Creative media planning and buying duties on the $15 million account.

The business was awarded to Creative, part of Omnicom Media Group’s PhD global media network, after a review that included several other undisclosed media agencies.

Headquartered in Mountain View, Calif., Tellme Networks will be handled jointly by Creative’s Marina del Rey, Calif., and San Francisco offices.

“This win speaks to the strengths of Creative on the West Coast,” said Andy Chase, senior vice president for the media shop here. “Because of our two-city setup [on the West Coast], with the client based in San Francisco and the creative agency in Los Angeles, we’re able to service both quickly. … The assignment helps to establish the office here in L.A. and gives us a chance to work with one of the premier breakout agencies in the market.”

Creative Media opened its office here a year ago. Chase was brought in from Initiative Media, where he had been head of the retail direct unit. Billing about $40 million, Creative’s L.A. outpost works with E*Trade and is the media buying partner for Omnicom sister shop Direct Partners, a direct response specialist.

Tellme Networks, founded 18 months ago, is a free online service via telephone. Users call an 800 number and use spoken commands to instantly find and connect with businesses, listings, news, traffic, friends and other resources.
