Crate & Barrel Nears Creative Decision

CHICAGO Crate & Barrel has narrowed the search for an agency to handle its $5 million creative account to several shops, a company executive said.

The Northbrook, Ill., home furnishings chain expects to make a decision in the “next several weeks,” said Kathy Paddor, Crate & Barrel’s director of marketing.

The review does not include media buying and planning, which is handled internally, Paddor said. She declined to provide additional details.

The company launched its review in January and initially sent out proposal requests to seven agencies, sources said.

Incumbent Tucker Tapia, a startup agency located in Chicago, won the account in 1999. Late last year the shop rolled out a “lifestyle” advertising campaign.

The fate of the agency, which listed Crate & Barrel as its only client, was unknown. The agency’s Web site,, no longer exists and the shop’s listed phone number has been disconnected with no further information.
