Cranford Adds Account Chief In Lenehan

Cranford Johnson Rob-inson Woods in Little Rock, Ark., hired 21-year agency and client-side marketing veteran Don Lenehan to head its account service operations.
Lenehan, who joins the agency as senior vice president and management director, most recently was senior vice president of marketing for Royal Crown Co.
Lenehan said he has day-to-day responsibilities for CJRW’s largest client, Alltel, along with general training and development duties for the agency’s other account teams.
The position on Alltel, which includes oversight of account service, creative and media staffers–is a new one. Lenehan’s other duties had been handled by Kathleen Wilson, who left to join Alltel.
Lenehan’s hiring follows Alltel’s acquisition earlier this year of wireless service provider 360 Communications. Alltel and 360 spent a combined $67 million on advertising in 1997, per Competitive Media Reporting. Sources said $10-15 million of that total was handled by CJRW. 360’s lead shop is The Martin Agency in Richmond, Va.
Lenehan said CJRW and Martin are both working for the combined telecommunications company, which has begun marketing all of its services under the Alltel name.
Before moving to CJRW, Lenehan logged three years at Royal Crown, where he oversaw marketing activities for the RC Cola, Diet Rite, Upper 10 and Nehi brands. Prior to Royal Crown, he was vice president of marketing for Cable News Network and has also had agency stints at Ogilvy & Mather and Lintas Advertising, both New York.
Alltel’s acquisition of 360 doubled the Little Rock-based telecom’s customer base to nearly six million in 22 states, per Hoover’s Online.
