Coyne Beahm Promotes Barbitta

Coyne Beahm has promoted Tom Barbitta to director of business development.

Barbitta, a senior vice president at the Greensboro, N.C., agency, adds new-business responsibilities to his account-side duties. He succeeds Scott Lund, who passed away earlier this year.

“We’ve made some key investments on the creative and public relations side,” said Barbitta. “Now it’s my job to get the agency’s left and right brains working together.”

To that end, Barbitta hopes to maximize the shop’s strategic strength through alliances with “hot properties,” including freelancers and other agencies in the pursuit of “clients with products and brands that are national in scope.”

Barbitta, 46, arrived in North Carolina two years ago from Seattle, where he was vice president of marketing at Oberto Sausage Co., whose product offerings in-clude beef jerky.

Over the last 20 years, he held marketing positions at Nabisco, Lipton and Miller Brewing Co.

“I’ve done a lot of heavy strategic lifting,” Barbitta said. “I felt I could take that experience and jump over to the advertising side, rather than remain someone always tethered to a brand.”

Under agency partners Pat Coyne and Roger Beahm, Barbitta oversees R.J. Reynolds’ Doral cigarettes account and the affinity marketing business of Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse.
