Coke Shifts $35 Mil. Creative in France

NEW YORK Coca-Cola has moved creative duties on its Coke Classic brand in France to Havas’ BETC Euro RSCG, the client has confirmed.

That portion of the estimated $35 million French account had been handled by Interpublic Group’s McCann-Erickson. McCann’s New York office lost U.S. creative on the brand earlier this year to WPP Group’s Berlin Cameron/Red Cell.

A McCann representative could not be reached for comment, nor could Euro RSCG. Coke provided no additional information on the account switch. It could not be determined if the change came after a review.

Aegis’ Carat handles Coke’s media in France. That assignment remains in place.

The Atlanta-based client this week placed its $380 million U.S. media account up for review with an eye toward consolidating planning and buying at a single agency.

IPG’s Universal McCann handles domestic buying, while Publicis Groupe’s Starcom handles planning for Minute Maid and its sibling MediaVest handles planning for all other Coke brands [Adweek Online, Sept. 15]. All three are invited to participate as are WPP Group’s Mindshare and Carat, the client has said.
