CM Hires Burnett’s Hoffman as President, CCO

CHICAGO Interpublic Group’s Campbell Mithun has named Leo Burnett vice chairman and group creative head Jonathan Hoffman president and chief creative officer, filling a slot that’s been vacant for two years, the agency confirmed.

In the shift, CM president Jack Rooney, 47, will become CEO of the Minneapolis shop, while CEO Les Mouser, 52, will become chairman.

“Jonathan is the perfect fit for our agency and our team,” said Rooney in a statement. “He’s a superbly talented creative leader and his diverse brand experience is an ideal complement to the businesses of our clients.”

The position had been vacant since June 2002, when chief creative officer John Hurst took a job with McCann-Erickson Worldgroup in London, heading up the General Mills business.

At Publicis Groupe’s Burnett, Hoffman had led creative on the agency’s Nintendo and U.S. Army accounts. Hoffman, 42, began his career at the agency before moving to DDB in Chicago. He joined Burnett in 1991.
