Cliff Freeman Loses Another Creative

NEW YORK Gustavo Sousa, a junior art director who joined Cliff Freeman and Partners one year ago, has resigned from the agency, sources said.

Sousa moved to the U.S. from Brazil to join the New York agency last year.

The latest departure leaves the shop’s creative department with just three senior creative teams and three junior ones, sources said. Sousa is the eighth staffer to exit in less than two months.

Three executives, Charles Rosen, Jason Gaboriau and Doug Cameron, left in mid-June to form independent agency Amalgamated.

Creative director Eric Silver left the same month to join Publicis Groupe’s Saatchi & Saatchi in New York, taking a junior creative team (Ari Weiss and Aaron Adler) with him. Two weeks ago, associate creative director Ari Merkin, who was at Cliff Freeman for about eight months, resigned to take a position at Publicis Groupe’s Fallon in New York.

Sousa had worked on Fox Sports Net, Mohegan Sun and Quizno’s, an account the agency is in the process of defending in a review.

Cliff Freeman’s other accounts include Hollywood Video, Ben + Jerry’s, DSW and Value City.

Sousa could not be reached for comment. Cliff Freeman, CEO and chief creative officer of the independent agency, declined to comment.
