City Garage Moves Account To Todd Co.

City Garage, a Dallas-area automotive repair chain, has shifted its estimated $1 million advertising account to Todd Co. of Arlington, Texas, without a review.
The move was confirmed by client and agency officials. The account was previously handled by Knape in Dallas. Knape, which recently changed its name to that of its parent organization, Valentine Radford [Adweek, Aug. 17], won the City Garage advertising account last August from Adcetera of Houston.
Britt Todd, president of the five-person agency, said his shop had been doing project work for City Garage and the volume of assignments had steadily increased. In April, Todd was approached by Greg Mason, City Garage director of development and marketing, about assuming agency of record status.
Mason could not be reached for comment at press time.
Todd said his agency will primarily develop print advertising to support the 21-unit operation. The shop is also negotiating event and broadcast sponsorships for the client.
City Garage has also decided to replace Knape’s “When we see cars, we see people” advertising tagline with a previous themeline, “There’s one in your neighborhood,” according to Todd.
The company’s advertising to date has been targeted at both new and used car owners. The five-year-old chain has competed primarily on price and convenience factors against other automotive maintenance businesses and new-car dealership service offerings outside of warranty repairs, Mason told Adweek last year.
Todd took over as president and sole owner of the agency three years ago from his father, who founded the company in 1965. Todd said he is evaluating whether to hire additional staffers to handle the business.
City Garage, founded in Dallas, is now headquartered in nearby Duncanville, Texas.
The automotive service company’s locations are spread throughout Dallas and Fort Worth.
