LOS ANGELES — Mediaedge: CIA, New York, has been cut from the list of contenders for Hyundai and Kia’s combined $500 million U.S. media buying review, sources said.

The media shop was initially invited to pursue the Asian carmaker’s business when it was independently owned. Following the completion last month of WPP’s purchase of former CIA parent Tempus Group and the merging of CIA and WPP’s Media Edge, however, CIA faced insurmountable conflict hurdles. WPP media entities handle media for both Ford and Ford division Jaguar and sources said the holding company would not have allowed CIA to pursue the business in any case.
