Charlotte Shop Rebounds With NBA Team

ATLANTA Seven months after resigning the account and just days after its successor resigned it, Wray Ward Laseter once again is the Charlotte Bobcat’s ad agency, the shop said.

The National Basketball Association franchise assigned its account to WWL on Tuesday without a review after Boone/Oakley, an independent Charlotte, N.C., shop, resigned the account for “business reasons” on Friday. WWL developed the advertising to introduce the expansion team two years ago before resigning the account last November, citing an inability to agree on terms of the contract.

WWL, an independent Charlotte shop, will work with the team’s internal marketing staff to develop new advertising for the team, which just concluded its first season.

“We are proud to be the team that laid the foundation for the Charlotte Bobcats and we’re thrilled to work with their internal team to bring our passion to this next phase of their growth,” said Jennifer Appleby, president and chief creative officer at WWL.

WWL also has produced advertising for C-SET, the team’s regional sports network, and the WNBA Charlotte Sting and developed trade show and direct mail pieces for the new Charlotte Arena where the Bobcats play.

“Wray Ward Laseter has been a strong partner for us and we look forward to this fresh start for all the same reasons we hired them in the first place,” said Chris Weiller, executive vice president and chief marketing officer for the team. “They have the strategic vision, creative approach and depth of resources needed to help us meet our marketing goals.”
