TSR Advertising has been awarded the Champs Sports ad account. Ian Gomar, senior vice president of marketing for Champs, said he “informally reviewed” other agencies, but felt most comfortable with TSR. The incumbent was Publicis, New York, which had not done work for the client for about a year.
“We chose TSR because we liked their recent success and creative firepower,” said Gomar, who knows TSR co-chairman Bob Kantor from when Kantor worked at Publicis.
Gomar also valued the youth market TSR targets; the agency’s clients include Casio, Oddzon, Cap Candy, Hasbro, 3DO, G Shock/Baby G, Simple Wishes and TBS sports.
Champs will spend about $12 million this year on advertising.
