Casa Fiesta Is Back Home And at Mayer

Peter A. Mayer Advertising here has reeled in its sixth brand from Bruce Foods, becoming the agency of record for the Casa Fiesta line of all-natural Mexican foods made by the New Iberia, La., company.
The move puts all Bruce accounts in Louisiana for the first time in more than a decade.
Rives Carlberg of Houston said it resigned the $1.5 million advertising account of Casa Fiesta this past spring after winning the business in an August 1996 review that included Mayer.
Casa Fiesta has been without an agency while Mayer continued serving as agency of record for five of Bruce’s nine brands.
“We were invited to [present to] Bruce Foods a year ago, primarily to pitch the Casa Fiesta brand, which is the biggest advertiser in the group,” Peter A. Mayer Advertising president Mark Mayer said.
Though the shop lost out in that contest, Mayer added, “They liked what we did with the other brands and offered us the Casa Fiesta work. Their products are first class, high quality in their categories and are well-positioned.”
Mayer’s other Bruce brands include Louisiana Hot Sauce, Louisiana Gold Hot Sauce, Cajun King Seasoning Mix, the Mexene Chili line and Bruce’s Yams.
All six of the client’s food lines, plus three others that have gone in-house, moved last summer from 11-year incumbent Berry-Brown Advertising of Dallas.
Bruce Foods marketing director Virginia Brown confirmed that Mayer was selected based on its success in handling the company’s other products.
Begun in 1928, Casa Fiesta’s line of 80-plus shelf-stable Mexican foods competes against the products of Ortega, Old El Paso and Taco Bell.
Media plans have not been disclosed, but Rives Carlberg was asked to develop a radio, print and television advertising campaign during its tenure on the account.
