Carrabba’s “Fake Waiter”

MMB has long worked on Subway’s campaigns, so I was intrigued by what the Boston agency might cook up in its debut effort for such a markedly different restaurant chain like Carrabba’s. We get a guy who is so enamored of the Italian eatery’s food, he can recite the menu better than any of its waiters. Then a real waiter shows up, and the imposter returns to his seat. That’s about it. At first, I thought this might be a parody of predictable commercials, or that I had missed some subtler joke or misunderstood the punchline. But that’s not the case. Where’s Jared Fogle when you need him? His long-running commercial slim-down saga seems like a positively meaty concept by comparison.--David Gianatasio
