Canon Hires G2 for Web Site Revamp

NEW YORK Canon USA has expanded its relationship with Grey Global Group by adding G2 Interactive to its roster for a project, the agency said.

G2 here has been tapped to redesign the client’s Web site. Its sibling, traditional ad agency Grey, has been on the Canon roster since 1976.

Canon’s general manager of corporate communications William Reed said, “G2 impressed us with their interactive marketing expertise and the strength of their team. Canon is a world-class brand, and we feel G2 can help us significantly enhance our Web site to reflect that world-class status.”

Other contenders for the assignment were not disclosed.

G2’s worldwide CEO Joe Celia added that the agency was eager to work with a company that has “potential for innovation in the digital sector and represents such thought leadership and innovation in their own industry.”

Canon headquarters are in Lake Success, N.Y., and it specializes in office imaging equipment such as copiers, printers, fax machines and scanners. Grey handles Canon’s camera business, which had a U.S. media spend of $55 million in 2006, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus.

G2 has 86 offices worldwide. Other clients include, Absolut, Adobe, Coca-Cola, GlaxoSmithKline, Kraft, Mars, Nokia, Pfizer, Procter & Gamble and Volkswagen. Both G2 and Grey are ultimately owned by London-based WPP Group.
