Burnett Names London ECDs

CHICAGO Leo Burnett has hired Paul Shearer and Jim Thornton as co-executive creative directors in its London office, the agency said. A start date for the ECDs has yet to be determined.

Thornton, 40, joins the Publicis Groupe shop from Mother in London, where he is currently creative director. Shearer, 36, joins the office from Wieden + Kennedy in Amsterdam, where he is also a creative director. They take the place of Nick Bell, who left the agency as executive creative director to take a similar post at WPP Group’s J. Walter Thompson in London in February.

Shearer’s career in advertising has included stints at Partners BDDH, Bartle Bogle Hegarty and Euro RSCG Wnek Gosper in London. He moved to Amsterdam and Wieden in 2000. Thornton has worked at J. Walter Thompson, TBWA/GGT in London. He joined Mother in 1999. Both will report to Bruce Haines, chief executive, and Bruce Cook, chairman and managing director, at Leo Burnett.
