BREAKING FROM TRADITION

With this month’s edition, The Boston Parents’ Paper sheds its stodgy old look for a fresh one. The monthly publication, last updated three years ago, sports a redesigned logo, new typefaces and an expanded “What’s Happening” section.
The first new-look issue has a highly charged cover story: “Talking About Abortion.”
“To our knowledge, no national or regional parenting publication has ever written on this subject,” said Betsy Weaver, chief executive officer of Parents’ Plus, the paper’s publisher. “Our aim . . . is to talk about the need for open communication between parent and child, regardless of one’s stance on this topic.”
The touchy subject has not deterred a handful of new advertisers from jumping aboard, including Omni Fitness, H.P. Hood and Cambridge Eye Doctors, said sales manager David Saslavsky.
About 70,000 copies of the paper, first published in 1984, are given away each month. -Sarah Jones
