BP CEO Tony Hayward apologizes for the Gulf disaster and pledges, “We will make this right.” But after his “I would like my life back” blunder last month, it’s tough to conjure up any warm feelings for BP or its chief exec — or to have any confidence that the company will devise a workable solution after its failures to stem the flow thus far.

Taking “full responsibility” for the environmental horror 45 days after the Deepwater Horizon went down does nothing to assuage the torrent of anger spreading around the world.
