On a Saturday morning last April, Joseph Nacchio was addressing a rather sleepy crowd of advertising executives at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Laguna Niguel, California. This was the last day of the annual meeting of the American Association of Advertising Agencies, and those attendees who weren’t already packing their bags or hitting the dew-covered links that morning were groggily filing into the main ballroom to hear a panel discuss the emerging shape of the industry.
