Bermuda Tourism in Review

NEW YORK — The Bermuda Department of Tourism is reviewing its estimated $7 million advertising account, sources said. A decision is expected by month’s end following creative presentations last week.

J. Walter Thompson in New York, the incumbent of three years, confirmed that it is defending the business, but declined further comment. Three other agencies also are taking part in the review, according to sources.

Tourism minister David Allen was not available for comment. Separate calls to the client were not returned.

The latest campaign from JWT was a series of newspaper ads that retained the “Out of the blue” tagline that the agency introduced in 1999.

According to CMR, the spent nearly $7 million on measured media in 2000 and about $6.5 million for the first ten months of 2001.
