Avon Taps Magazine Industry Veteran

NEW YORK — Avon Products Inc. Friday named Deborah I. Fine, a magazine industry veteran, as president of a new global business that will focus on the market of teenage girls.

Ms. Fine, 41 years old, will join Avon Sept. 4. In the newly created position, Ms. Fine, who most recently served as vice president and publisher of Conde Naste Publications’ Glamour magazine, will be responsible for developing Avon’s entry into the teen market, focusing on the needs and interests of teenage girls, including beauty and related products.

“Marketing to teens is a continuation of our stated strategy to extend Avon’s brand equity into new customer segments, new distribution channels and new product categories,” said Andrea Jung, Avon’s chief executive, in a prepared statement.

Avon (AVP) plans to launch Teen Business in early 2003. The new teen business will use Avon distribution channels, including direct selling, specially created sales catalogues and the Internet.
