Arnold, Mullen, Nail Are Kelly Finalists

BOSTON Havas’ Arnold, Interpublic Group’s Mullen and independent Nail Communications are the New England shops placing among the finalists for the grand prize at The Magazine Publishers of America’s Kelly Awards.

The competition honors creative magazine advertising and carries a cash prize of $100,000.

Arnold in Boston is nominated for two campaigns: “Europe” for Royal Caribbean and “New Beetle” for Volkswagen of America. Mullen, Wenham, Mass., also placed two campaigns among the nominees: “Upgrade Your Language” for American Heritage Dictionary and “American Landscapes” for Eddie Bauer. Nail, Providence, R.I., is being considered for its “We See It Too” ads for Atomic Ski USA.

The grand prize will be awarded at the MPA’s Association of National Advertisers’ Print Advertising Forum in New York on June 19. Runners-up will be awarded gold and silver Kelly Awards.

Carmichael Lynch of Minneapolis won last year’s top prize for a Harley-Davidson campaign.

The other finalists are: Carmichael Lynch for three campaigns: “Reflections” for Harley-Davidson Parts & Accessories, “Black and Orange” for Harley-Davidson Motorclothes and brand ads for Porsche Cars North America; Crispin Porter + Bogusky in Miami, also for three campaigns: “Racing” for Bell, “Animals” for Giro and “Launch Effort” for Mini USA;; Leo Burnett in Chicago for “School Portraits” for Kraft’s Altoids and “I-Zone Adjacking” for Polaroid; BBDO in New York for “Shower/Office/Cast” for Guinness; Borders Perrin Norrander in Portland, Ore., for its fall 2002 brand campaign for Columbia Sportswear; Bozell in New York for its “Look Deeper” campaign for The New York Times; Campbell-Ewald in Warren, Mich., for “Lyric” for Chevrolet; and DDB in Dallas for its 2002 “Labels” campaign for McIlhenny Co.

Also, Fallon in New York for “Seek Out” for Timberland; Lowe, New York, for “Having a Baby Changes Everything” for Johnson & Johnson; Martin/Williams, Minneapolis, for its “Fall Heritage Product” campaign for L.L. Bean; Peterson Milla Hooks in Minneapolis for “Sign of the Times” for Target; Vitrorobertson in San Diego for “Everyday Artists” for Taylor Guitars; Wieden + Kennedy in Portland for its “ACG Go” campaign for Nike; and Young & Rubicam, Chicago, for “Souvenir, T-shirts, Seat Cushions, UFO, Grass Stain” for Nascar.
