Arnold Gets Hyatt Hotels, Adds Ranson to Head PR

WASHINGTON, D.C.-Arnold Communi-cations of McLean, Va., has won the Eastern division of Chicago-based Hyatt Hotels Corp. on the heels of hiring a new senior vice president of public relations to bolster the agency’s presence here.
Robert Ranson has been named to lead Arnold’s public relations unit partly in response to client requests for that service. “We have expanded our public relations division to manage the increased demand for public relations from both existing and potential clients,” said Pete Hanley, president of Arnold Communications.
The Hyatt account is a newly consolidated piece of business with an undetermined budget. Many of the hotels had their own agency, but Arnold will handle advertising for 20 properties in Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York and Boston, according to agency officials.
Arnold’s Mclean office has seen startling growth, from $17 million in billings a few years ago to $131 million today. Only $12 million of that comes from clients of the parent in Boston, the agency said. As of June, the shop had 131 staffers. Ranson has four full-time staffers and is looking to add at least two additional hires this month for his public relations department.
“We’ve added 25 people since June but every department still needs bodies, and we’re hiring everywhere,” Ranson said.
Previously, Ranson was senior vice president of Jeffer-son Public Relations, where he provided corporate communications and strategic marketing services to clients in the technology and transportation fields. Before joining Jefferson, Ranson was president of Ranson Walsh & Associates, a marketing communications firm, which moved from Atlanta to Virginia in 1987.
