AOL Taps Former BK Exec for Marketing Post

NEW YORK America Online has hired Richard Taylor, formerly vice president of U.S. marketing at Burger King, as senior vice president of brand promotion.

In the newly created post, Taylor will develop brand promotions for the Dulles, Va.-based AOL Time Warner Internet unit and will lead teams responsible for executing those promotions. For instance, he will spearhead national, seasonal and special event initiatives to support AOL’s broadband service, according to a company representative. He will report to evp of brand marketing Len Short, who joined AOL in January.

Taylor previously spent nine years at Burger King, where he was responsible for branding, positioning, strategic development, advertising, promotion, media and merchandising, as well as interactive and multicultural marketing. He also oversaw the introduction of new products and promotions and forged marketing alliances with leading entertainment providers. Since leaving the fast-food operator last year, he has been consulting in Miami.

Before Burger King, Taylor worked at Bacardi USA for 10 years in brand management.
