AOL Makes More Management Moves

NEW YORK — America Online has made some additions to its interactive marketing group, the latest in a series of management moves meant to accelerate the company’s efforts to reach advertisers and agencies.

Robert Sherman, 59, has been tapped to lead the company’s advertising initiatives across all of its brands and services as president, interactive marketing. He replaces Robert Friedman, who vacates the spot after less than a year to become svp, corporate marketing, in charge of integrated marketing and promotions at AOL Time Warner.

Sherman will report to AOL interactive services president Jimmy de Castro; In the newly created post, Friedman will report to evp Mayo Stuntz.

The company has also hired Charles Barrett, a three-year Yahoo vet, as svp, agency relations of the interactive marketing group, charged with enhancing outreach efforts to traditional advertisers and agencies. He replaces Richard Ward, who oversaw agency relations nationally out of San Francisco.

Sherman, the former president of Time Warner Cable advertising sales, brings 30 years of advertising, media and ad sales experience to his new post. Previously, he was evp of NBC’s owned-and-operated radio stations and before that, he was CEO of Della Femina, Sherman, an ad agency with clients like USA Network, Fox Television and MSG Network.

Friedman, 46, has been with AOL Time Warner for more than 10 years in a variety of marketing functions, developing creative programs with all of the company’s divisions. In his new post, Friedman will work with the company’s marketing and advertising councils to develop new cross-platform partner marketing and promotion initiatives.

Most recently, Barrett was executive director of sales for the Northwest region at Yahoo. Before that, he was vp, West Coast region for GeoCities, which was bought in 1999 by Yahoo.

The moves come two weeks after Robert Pittman, AOL chief operating officer-elect, assumed the duties AOL chairman and CEO Barry Schuler, who stepped down.
