Discussions of this year’s mid-term elections take it as a given that Americans are hopping mad. Is that an accurate assessment of how consumers feel these days? Judging by the results of a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll this month, it is.

When asked to say whether they’re angry “about the way things are going in the country today,” seven in 10 described themselves as either “very angry” (31 percent) or “somewhat angry” (39 percent). A more temperate 17 percent said they’re “not very angry,” while 13 percent declared themselves to be “not angry at all.”
