Anello Takes Creative Post

Ric Anello has been named executive creative director at D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles in St. Louis. The agency said Anello’s appointment will give managing
director Charlie Claggett more time to spend on business development and general management.
The new position at DMB&B combines the roles of executive vice president and executive creative director. Anello will report directly to Claggett, who retains the titles of managing director and chief creative officer.
Anello joined the agency in 1990 and was one of three senior vice president/group creative directors reporting to Claggett. Anello handled the agency’s SBC Communications and Pillsbury Specialty Brands accounts. With growth from existing business at SBC, parent company of Southwestern Bell, and at Pillsbury, DMB&B is churning out as much or more work now as it did before the November 1994 departure of the $100 million Anheuser-Busch account, Anello said.
Claggett said Anello’s three primary responsibilities will be to maintain the quality of the agency’s creative work, to manage the creative staff so that clients are best served and to handle staff recruitment.
Anello said he plans to move creative personnel to different accounts and generate more of a “creative department feel.”
