Alencar Joins Organic as ECD

NEW YORK Organic raided AKQA to nab Mauro Alencar as its new executive creative director.

The Omnicom Group agency said Alencar, 31, joined the firm’s San Francisco office after a year at independent AKQA. At Organic, he will oversee the creative departments at the agency’s offices in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Alencar reports to Quentin George, managing director of Organic’s West Cost practice.

At AKQA, Alencar was creative director and led the shop’s work on Microsoft’s xBox account. He joined the agency in August 2005 from Blast Radius, a Vancouver, B.C.-based Web shop, where he was executive creative director for two years. He began his career in Brazil, where he worked at AgenciaClick from 1998 to 2002. He also had stints at DM9DDB and JWT.

“Whether the work is for Web sites, online marketing campaigns or emerging platforms, Mauro’s wealth of experience and proven track record of success will raise the creative bar even higher at Organic,” George said in a statement.

In May, Organic’s chief creative officer, Colleen DeCourcy, departed for WPP Group’s JWT, where she is now chief experience officer.
