AKQA Hires Xbox Creative Director

NEW YORK AKQA said Mauro Alencar has joined the agency as the lead creative director for its Microsoft Xbox account.

Alencar, 30, came to the independent San Francisco-based agency from Blast Radius, a Vancouver interactive shop, where he was executive creative director and worked with clients that included Nike, Nintendo and Heineken.

Alencar began his career in Brazil, where he worked for AgenciaClick from 1998 to 2002 with AKQA executive creative director P.J. Pereira. Prior to AgenciaClick, Alencar worked at Sao Paolo shops DM9DDB and J. Walter Thompson.

AKQA is Microsoft’s lead agency for its Xbox 360 brand. The agency also handles the Web marketing for game titles from Microsoft Game Studios, as well as designing the game console for Xbox Live. In May, AKQA designed the user-interface for the Xbox 360, which is set for launch during the holiday season.
