NEW YORK said David Eastman would be its new CEO, replacing Don Scales, who left the Omnicom Group shop last month over differing strategic opinons.

Eastman, 42, was managing director of’s London office. As CEO, he will relocate to’s New York headquarters, reporting to Tequilla Worldwide CEO Jeremy Pagden. plans to hire Eastman’s replacement from internal candidates.

As his first goal, Eastman plans to determine how can best operate in a new alignment structure with TBWA\Chiat\Day and Tequila. Scales clashed with Omnicom management and even executives over how closely to align the Web shop, sources said. This eventually led to his resignation last month.

“We’re all part of the same family at the end of the day,” Eastman said. “We’re realizing we have to play nicely with each other.”

Eastman said the alignment with far-flung TBWA would enable to expand to new markets, first in Europe and then in Asia and South Africa.

The agency also promoted Dave Johnson, managing partner of’s Chicago office, to president of North America. Johnson, 38, will work to see that the agency’s domestic offices in New York, San Francisco, Chicago and Dallas work closely with TBWA and Tequila, as part of the alignment strategy set forth nine months ago by Omnicom CEO John Wren.

“It comes down to trust and building local relationships,” Johnson said of closer collaboration. “Typically the top-down dictates are ineffective.”
