DDB Needham Dallas is preparing to shoot a new television image campaign for Mrs Baird’s Bakeries, according to agency vice chairman and chief creative officer Jim Ferguson. Proposed tagline for the spots is: “Fresh from the oven. Straight from the heart.” The campaign will likely include three TV spots. A launch date has not been specified.

Five agencies in Texas have won Effie Awards, according to the New York American Marketing Association. Dallas-based Dieste & Partners received two awards for its Doritos and Pepsi campaigns; McCann-Erickson, Houston, was cited for its Texas Instruments advertising; The Richards Group in Dallas won for its Chick-fil-A work; Bates Southwest, Houston, scored for Texaco; and GSD&M in Austin earned honors for its Fannie Mae Foundation campaign. A distinction between gold, silver and bronze winners will be announced at a ceremony on June 3.

The M/A/R/C Group of Irving reported a net loss of between $800,000 and $850,000 for the first quarter of this year. According to the market research company, quarterly revenues were $20.1 million, compared to $22.7 million in the same period a year ago. The firm said the loss reflects a non-recurring charge of $1.1 million for write-downs in its Targetbase Marketing subsidiary.
Vista Photographic & Video Group in Dallas appointed Mark Roos marketing manager. Roos previously operated his own company, Media Visions Production, Dallas. Vista Photographic & Video Group also produced a highlight video of the men’s basketball team at Texas Christian University, located in Fort Worth. The video is called, “Big Thangs–The Rise of TCU Basketball, ’97-’98.”
Churchill Group, Houston, was hired as agency of record for Equilon Enterprises, which is a joint venture of Shell Oil and Texaco. Equilon combines major elements of Shell’s and Texaco’s Western and Midwestern U.S. refining and marketing operations, as well as the companies nationwide trading, transportation and lubricants business.

Bates Southwest, Houston, earned a silver medallion at the 1998 David Ogilvy Research Awards for its 1997 Texaco gasoline campaign. The awards are sponsored by the Advertising Research Foundation, in cooperation with the Association of National Advertisers and the American Association of Advertising Agencies.

Jessica Szenher, vice president and director of public relations at Stone & Ward in Little Rock, received the president’s award from the Arkansas chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.

In an expansion of its creative department, Duke Unlimited in Metairie hired art director Janice Moore, formerly of Alford Advertising in New Orleans. Moore will work primarily on the Ruth’s Chris Steak House account.

Vyvx Advertising Distribution Services, a Tulsa-based distributor of television and radio commercials, exceeded 1997 volume projections with the delivery of 2.4 million ads to broadcasters last year. Vyvx works with nearly 600 TV stations.
