Aflac Duck Meets Looney Tunes

NEW YORK The wacky, intrusive Aflac duck gets “animated” in a new TV spot breaking this week that also features Looney Tunes legends Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner.

The spot, via The Kaplan Thaler Group, New York, in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, will break during college football bowl games on Jan. 1 before hitting rotation on national network and cable. Spend was not given. Aflac spent about $40 million in media in 2002, per TNS Media Intelligence/CMR.

The spot opens with Bugs and Daffy on a park bench discussing the need for insurance in the “cartoon business.” The Aflac Duck is seen being nearly toppled by the Road Runner, while quacking “Aflaaaac!” As the spot proceeds, the Road Runner continues to dodge disaster, Bugs chomps his ever-present carrot and Wile E. falls victim to his own traps and is last seen plummeting to the bottom of a canyon with the Aflac duck in tow.

The “Aflac Looney Tunes” commercial marks the 16th spot in the Aflac campaign. Regarding the appearance of Daffy, Daniel Amos, chairman and CEO of Aflac, said, “We thought it was about time that these two popular ducks met.”
