‘Adweek’ Appoints Solman West Coast Editor

LOS ANGELES Gregory Solman has joined Adweek as West Coast editor.

Solman, 45, has more than 20 years of journalism experience. His background includes stints as editor in chief of Variety’s On Production and 10 years as senior editor of Millimeter, a motion picture, television and commercial production trade. Over that period, his film criticism has appeared on Express.com as well as in Film Comment magazine, The Boston Phoenix, and on radio and television.

“After years of reporting on commercial production and post, I’m very excited about covering the driving forces of the advertising industry,” said Solman. “As an essential read, Adweek represents a great opportunity to communicate with the creative community, the engines of ideas.”

In his new position, Solman will cover West Coast-based national agencies and entertainment marketing efforts, working with national news editor Jack Feuer. He will also contribute to Adweek‘s creative section and Web site.

“The West Coast is home to some of the most important national agencies and industries, including many top car makers and, of course, entertainment,” said Feuer. “Greg brings a veteran journalist’s experience and skills, plus an insider’s knowledge of the advertising process, to a critical part of our news operation.”

A native of Caribou, Maine, Solman began his journalism career at the age of 15, stringing for the local weekly paper. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., and his Master of Fine Arts degree from the graduate Film School of Columbia University in New York.
