ADC Issues Call for Entries

NEW YORK The Art Directors Club call for entries for its 85th annual show goes out today. The invitation spoofs McDonald’s and carries the headline, “Pimp my brand.”

The call for entries, created by Ernest Lupinacci, a partner at Anomaly in New York, shows an African American man dressed like Ronald McDonald and holding an ADC cube. It is a reference to McDonald’s marketing scheme earlier in the year to pay hip-hop artists to mention Big Macs in their songs.

“It just sort of had me thinking about how for good or for bad the boundaries of what creative people are asked to do and expected to do have been stretched to the extreme,” Lupinacci said.

In addition, the ADC named its jury chairs for the show, which will take place June 8 in New York. Ty Montague, chief creative officer of JWT in New York, will chair the advertising jury; Brian Collins, executive creative director of the Brand Integration Group at Ogilvy & Mather in New York, will chair the design jury; and Matt Freeman, CEO of Tribal DDB in New York, will chair the interactive jury.

The three jury chairs will also judge the hybrid winners. The hybrid category, introduced last year, honors innovative nontraditional advertising.
