Ad Club Releases Diversity Guide Focusing On Business Strategies

The Ad Club Foundation has published a comprehensive guide on diversifying the workplace.
The Business Resource Guide contains discussions with consultants and business leaders who have undertaken diversity initiatives with some measure of success, said Juliette Mayers, executive director of the foundation.
The guide instructs companies on how to diversify a workforce, profiles businesses that successfully recruit and retain minority employees and provides information on where to find additional resources.
“It was created very much from a business perspective, as opposed to a socially responsible standpoint,” Mayers said. It contains information “relevant to any company interested in adding diversity.”
Positioning diversity as a means of improving business is the key, Mayers said. “When you talk about buying power and purchasing power and how it impacts their organization, then you’re speaking in a language they’re most used to talking in, regardless of social implications.”
The Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce will partner with the Ad Club Foundation to market the guide to the broader business community, Mayers said. Although the primary target is Boston, Mayers hopes the club’s affiliations with the American Advertising Foundation and the American Association of Advertising Agencies will provide avenues for the book to be sold in other markets around the country.
“It’s organized so you can use it as a reference,” Mayers said. “It’s not something you want to sit down and read cover to cover.”
Among the local businesses represented in the guide’s case studies are ad agency Trinity Communications, BankBoston and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care.
The guide costs $295 for members of the Ad Club Foundation and $500 for nonmembers.
