ACURA TAPS LEGEND TO DIRECT TV SPOTS

The photographer who helped making clothing from the Gap de rigueur, is about to try and put the Acura Legend back into fashion.

Sources in the Hollywood production community said last week that Ketchum Advertising/L.A. tapped Herb Ritts, who achieved prominence for his portrait photography of Hollywood personalities, to direct the upcoming campaign for the Legend.
The campaign breaks in October. Ritts, who has also directed music videos, was one of the photographers who shot the Gap’s ‘Individuals of Style’ campaign. The choice of Ritts is a departure for Acura, which has tried to position the Legend as a performance car. Sources said the move indicates that Acura may be firing back at competitors who have stolen market share from the Legend, perhaps by redefining the nameplate. It’s believed the spots Ritts will shoot portray the Legend in a lifestyle context, ‘obviously treating the car as more of a personal statement than a piece of sheetmetal,’ a source said.
