Account Planners Call It Quits

NEW YORK The Account Planning Group U.S. is dissolving and will relinquish its duties and sponsored events to the American Association of Advertising Agencies, representatives of both organizations said today.

The planning group, which had nearly 800 members, operated the APG U.S. awards show and an annual account planning conference that drew hundreds of attendees from around the world. This year’s conference will be held in September in Boca Raton, Fla., but will be organized and sponsored by the 4A’s, said APG U.S. co-chairman Cathy Clift.

“It has become the largest conference of its kind in the world and as such it requires a dedicated and professional staff to put in on and do a really good job,” Clift said, “And that’s where the strength and support of the 4A’s is invaluable.”

The group began as an ad hoc organization during the early 1990s and incorporated itself as a nonprofit advertising association in 2000, Clift said. During the last year, account planners have expanded into a variety of businesses, like brand management and client services, requiring a level of service the association cannot provide alone, said Clift. The original office in London will continue to operate, she said.
