4 in Sprint PCS Finals

Officials with Sprint PCS are looking at a quartet of agencies–two in Florida and two in Texas–to handle its newly consolidated Hispanic advertising and marketing account.
A company official involved in the review process said billings for the account are estimated at $8 million.
The four agencies pursuing the Sprint PCS business are BVK/Meka in Miami; CreatAbility of Coral Gables, Fla.; Bromley, Aguilar & Associates of San Antonio; and Dieste & Partners in Dallas. Final presentations were made to the client in Kansas City, Mo., last week.
All four finalists have ties to the client or experience in the telecommunications business.
CreatAbility handles Hispanic work for Sprint PCS in Miami and New York; Bromley, Aguilar is responsible for Hispanic advertising and public relations for the client’s long-distance services; and Dieste & Partners is the Latino agency for Radio Shack. (Tandy Corp.’s consumer electronics retail chain is a major reseller of Sprint products.)
BVK/Meka previously did some work for MCI Telecommunications. The agency’s parent company, BVK/McDonald in Milwaukee, also can boast of prior telecommunications experience.
According to Mary Stephenson, a consultant with Mercer Island Group, Sprint PCS wants to be in position to name a new agency by the end of the month. The Mercer organization is conducting the review.
Mercer, which is located near Seattle, was the consultancy that worked with Sprint when the main account was awarded to Publicis Hal Riney & Partners in San Francisco two years ago.
