$25 Mil. Buffets Considers 4 Shops

CHICAGO Buffets Inc. has cut to four the number of agencies vying for the client’s ad account, according to AAR Partners, the consulting company overseeing the review.

Contending for the business are incumbent BBDO in Minneapolis, an Omnicom Group shop; Interpublic Group’s Lowe and independent Christy MacDougall Mitchell Bodden, both in New York; and Doner, an indie shop in Southfield Mich., according to a representative for AAR. Briefings are scheduled for later this week; presentations have not been scheduled, according to the representative.

Buffet’s spends an estimated $25 million annually on ads.

Eagan, Minn.-based Buffets is the parent of restaurant chains Old Country Buffet and Home Town Buffet. BBDO in August broke a largely unscripted TV campaign that featured kids talking about what it was they liked about the restaurants. One girl said she could order, “the opposite of what my brother gets,” emphasizing the wide range of selections.
