NEW YORK Spanish automaker Seat is shifting its estimated $160 million pan-European account from Bates to Grey Global Group’s Grey Worldwide, the client said on Monday.

Bates will manage the transition of the Volkswagen-owned brand to Grey in London, a Seat representative said, with the handoff expected to take place early next month.

WPP Group acquired former Bates parent Cordiant Communications Group last summer. Since Seat is a rival to WPP’s largest client, Ford, Grey immediately seized on the possibility of adding the business, as Grey chairman Ed Meyer flew to Barcelona, Spain, in July to meet with top Seat executives [Adweek Online, Sept. 3].
