$100 Mil. MGM/UA Media to RPA

LOS ANGELES Independent RPA has added MGM/UA’s media buying along with some planning duties, according to sources.

The agency declined comment. The studio could not be immediately reached.

Estimated billings are $100 million.

The incumbent was Palisades Media Group, Santa Monica, Calif., which had handled the business only for the release of Material Girls starring Hilary Duff. A Palisades executive declined comment late Thursday.

Sources said RPA would handle the studio’s next big release: the World War I drama Flyboys starring James Franco and Jean Reno. Also on tap from MGM/UA later this year: the James Bond adventure Casino Royale and Sylvester Stallone’s return as Rocky Balboa.

Santa Monica-based RPA is one of the largest spot television buyers in the country because of its primary accounts, American Honda Motors and its Acura division.

A source said the MGA/UA reassignment was precipitated by the move of Amy Gruberg, formerly head of media for the feature film and home video divisions of DreamWorks SKG, to a similar position at MGM/UA. Gruberg was unavailable for comment.
