Vice’s NewFronts Presentation Focuses on High Audience Retention Rate

By Christine Zosche

During its NewFronts presentation in New York on Friday, Vice highlighted the ways its new form of advertising resonates with viewers and readers. Reducing ad load has been a goal for Viceland, Vice’s cable and streaming network, in addition to more premium content. (Adweek)

The youth media brand treated its NewFront guests to a boxing match between Vice executive Niall Cooney and celebrity chef Eddie Huang, who hosts Huang’s World on Viceland. The three-round bout, which Huang won, came complete with an advertising tie-in: Each competitor was fighting to win one of the attendees free ad space on Viceland. The entire spectacle was livestreamed on Facebook. (THR)

In the pitch to marketers, Vice boasted its aggregate reach of 288 million monthly people globally across all platforms. Shane Smith, CEO of Vice Media, did not appear. In a prerecorded video message played at the beginning of the presentation, he joked that he was “not allowed to come anymore” to the NewFronts after his appearance last year. (Variety)
