Dr. Stacy L. Smith and the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative found that 40 of the 100 top-grossing films in 2018 featured a female in a lead or co-lead role, which is an increase from 2017, which only had 32 films that featured a woman in the spotlight. (Deadline)

Eleven of 2018’s highest-grossing films included leading women 45 years of age or older. Additionally, more lead characters came from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups than ever before. (Mashable)
