Oprah Winfrey, Lionsgate to Bring New York Times’ 1619 Project to Film, TV

Oprah Winfrey, The New York Times and Lionsgate are partnering on a series of feature films and television shows based on The 1619 Project. (Variety)

The 1619 Project is the Times’ award-winning multimedia series that examines slavery’s lingering effects on contemporary life. (LA Times)

Winfrey will serve as a producer along with 2020 Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and 1619 creator Nikole Hannah-Jones, who will enlist Black creative voices to help adapt her celebrated series. The New York Times Magazine’s head of scripted entertainment and editor of The 1619 Project Caitlin Roper will also produce. (Deadline)
