HuffPost laid off about 20 employees around the United States on Thursday, one day after its parent company, Verizon Media, announced it would cut 7 percent of its workforce. (HuffPost)

Several HuffPost employees affected by the cuts have already announced their status on Twitter, including reporters Jason Cherkis, Laura Bassett, Lauren Weber, Eleanor Goldberg, Erin Schumaker and Nick Wing. Deputy opinion editor Chloe Angyal and opinion editor Bryan Maygers were laid off as part of an elimination of the publication’s Opinion section. (THR)

In shuttering its opinion and healthcare sections, a Huffington Post spokesperson said the media outlet is looking to invest in areas that have higher audience engagement. (Washington Examiner)
