Former Alabama Senator Doug Jones Joining CNN as Political Commentator

Former U.S. senator from Alabama Doug Jones announced on his Twitter account Friday morning that he is joining CNN as a political commentator. (TVNewser)

The Democrat lost his reelection bid for Senate in Alabama back in November to Republican challenger Tommy Tuberville. Democrats obtained a majority in the Senate despite Jones’ loss. (The Hill)

Jones was elected to the U.S. Senate after winning a hard-fought race in a December 2017 special election to fill the seat of then-Senator Jeff Sessions, who resigned from the Senate to serve as attorney general for former President Donald Trump. (Mediaite)

He debuted on Friday on CNN’s The Lead With Jake Tapper, telling the anchor, “Happy to be part of the team.” Jones, appearing from Birmingham, said that Joe Biden’s administration needed to amplify the message that a Covid-19 relief package was important not just for health care but the economy.
