Disney Is the First Studio to Have 5 $1 Billion Movies in a Year

Toy Story 4 has crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office, Disney announced on Thursday. That makes the animated Pixar film the fifth billion dollar release for Disney this year. (CNN Business)

The other four Disney films that have passed $1 billion this year: Captain Marvel, Aladdin, The Lion King and Avengers: Endgame. (CNBC)

Disney beat its own previous best of four. Overall, there have never been more than five films in one year to join the elite club. (THR)

The company will release Frozen 2, a Maleficent sequel and Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker in the coming months, meaning Disney could continue to elevate that bar. (Variety)

Currently, Toy Story 4 is the eighth-highest animated movie of all-time. It has more money to gross north of $580 million abroad with the pic opening in Germany Thursday. (Deadline)
