CNN Chief Says Chris Cuomo Made a Mistake in Joining Strategy Talks with Andrew Cuomo

CNN president Jeff Zucker said that anchor Chris Cuomo made a mistake when he advised his brother, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, on handling accusations of sexual harassment. (WSJ)

According to the Journal, Zucker made the comments during a CNN town hall meeting with staffers and said that he didn’t see the point of suspending Cuomo, adding that taking him off the air temporarily would amount to “punishment for the sake of punishing.” (TVNewser)

Zucker said that it was “more powerful and more honest” for Cuomo to publicly acknowledge his mistake and to apologize to his colleagues on air. (Mediaite)

He reiterated that Cuomo has been separated from coverage of his sibling and will not be able to interview or report on the governor at any point in the future. (Variety)
